Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The coronavirus infection appears to have started in Wuhan and is now a worldwide pandemic. The virus is a very small virus and its shell (envelope) has spikes with a club at the tip that gives it the appearance of a crown.

We do not have any immunity towards this virus but its effect vary from no symptoms, through to mild cold. In some people it causes a persistent fever, muscle aches, headaches and then leads to a cough. In about 15% of people it causes breathlessness and 5% of these patients can go on to become critically unwell.

Anyone with persistent fevers that last for more than 3 days or breathlessness should go to the hospital and be assessed.
